Older Adults Patient Education Issues Essay and Interview HLT 306 There are many issues that arise when teaching older patients. These barriers include; chronic illness, sensory changes, cognitive changes, medications and third party teaching. A patients life experiences can also affect patient education. It is up to the clinician to make adjustments to best suit each individuals needs and provide the best outcome possible. I conducted an interview with Mr. Bonds, a 79-year-old war veteran, and his daughter. Mr. Bonds was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer 2 weeks prior and was at the hospital to have a Super Dimension bronchoscopy for fiducial marker placement. After starting the bronchoscopy, the physician discovered Mr. Bond’s†¦show more content†¦This triggered many questions from him because he could recall the information. I could tell his anxiety had decreased, too. Once, the physician was in the procedure room, he also asked the patient if he had any questions. I brought up a few questions/concerns the patient had mentioned in our conversation that I thought needed to be readdressed and the physician was able to comment on those as well. Many older adults have a third party involved in their care. Many confide in these individuals and depend on them. When the physician saw a change of plans in the procedure, he left the room and went to consult Mr. Bonds’ daughter. He explained his findings, showed her pictures, and discussed the patient’s options. Once, an understanding was made, he proceeded with the procedure. After the procedure was complete, he went back to the daughter and discussed the patient’s current condition and new treatment plan. Due to Mr. Bonds being on the vent, the decisions were left up to his daughter. I went to place paper work in the patients chart and saw the daughter at bedside. I poked my head in, asked how she was and if she needed anything. I also asked if she had any questions regarding her father’s care or what the physician discussed with her. Question: In various organizations, marketing is given a different level of importance in the organizational structure and hierarchy. Why do you think this difference occurs, and why do you think that the level of importance of marketing should always be higher, discuss with examples? Answer: Marketing in simple words is to deliver customer satisfaction in order to earn profit. In this context certain objectives needs to be followed. Firstly it is important to satisfy the needs of a group of customers better than the competition and that is the reason various organizations employ different marketing strategies in its structure and hierarchy to achieve competitive advantage against competitors. Secondly to grow the business a firm must catch up with the changes in the environment, for example, changes in customer needs, competition and also changes in the companys skills and abilities. It must also consider the opportunities and threats arising from such changes and take up tactical actions that will minimalize these conditions. (Belch,2004) There are certain activities followed by various organizations to set up a proper marketing division and orientation. The first step in this process is to identify the customer demands that the company can satisfy, secondly a product needs to be designed which can satisfy those demands better than other existing products. Thirdly, comes the important role of promotion and communication through advertising channels and media in order to motivate purchase, fourthly a perfect price needs to be set which on one hand is affordable by the consumers and on the other satisfies the companys profits. Lastly the distribution channels needs to be at place so that these products are delivered to the places of the consumers. In order to execute the above mentioned actions market orientation is of vital use for companies in which they focus in collecting continuous information about consumer needs and competitors capabilities and share this information among various departments thereby using this i nformation to create value for consumers. Relationship Marketing is used today to develop effective communication by linking an organization with its appropriate set of consumers , employees, suppliers and other partners for long term benefit. Marketing a product or service has been a very easy process due to the various technologies in place, where one can learn about and track customers through databases, connecting with customers in a group or one - in - one through social media, distribution of products has become more easy and effective through online portals and so on. (Booms, 1981). Digitalization is the next step in marketing even bigger than internet. With advances in technology, great consumer power and increase in competition has forced various companies to bring up new ideas and innovations in order to build strategic advantage over others. The start of this process is to make the companies understand not just about the technology but what changes can the digital engagement bring to the business. Every organization must have their respective digital strategy and develop models to deliver such strategies. Such a strategy must go beyond any marketing department, it must enable continuous engagement with customers, suppliers, employees and investors. The process must continue through innovation and development of the business models. (Chaffey, 2012) It is evident from the above discussion that marketing is an important aspect in any business as it allows a company to prosper by boosting the sales of products and services. Hence every organization incorporates various marketing strategies in their organization structures to foster business development. In our study we will discuss in detail the organization structure of the marketing department and the importance of marketing in various sectors like Fmcg, hotels, insurance companies with relevant examples. (Kurtz,1998). The organizational structure of the marketing department in any company depends on various components. Small companies may have one or two marketing employees whereas larger organizations have dozens of marketing employees and staff. Overall, putting a complete structure in place helps marketing employees and other employees of the company to understand what is their role in the marketing department. The structure and hierarchy of the marketing department lies in the following order. The order ranges from a Vice - President to a Marketing Manager then a Marketing Researcher, Public Relations and finally to the Creative Services department. The person who is in charge of the entire marketing department is called the Vice President of marketing and is involved in creating and planning the marketing strategies of a company and its products and services. He is the person who bridges the gap between the upper management and other employees of any organization. The next in position is the marketing manager or a marketing director as it is relevant to most companies. His work is to execute the marketing strategy formulated by the President, which involves creating effective messages, choosing the right website advertising or print advertising techniques, carrying out appropriate marketing campaigns to reach out to the target audience. The manager reports to the Vice President and manages other employees and in product based companies having different product lines, there can be multiple managers for each product line. The position of market researchers are optional to a company, some of them appoints it to keep a record of their target customers and competitors. The researchers use tools like the focus groups or the census to gather information which in turn is used by the manager for the purpose of analysis and for creation of messages. Smaller companies hire a third party researcher to collect information rather than a full time staff, which is being kept by large c ompanies. (Singh,2004).The employees handling public relations focuses on advertising which is unpaid like submitting press releases to the media which will attract the attention to the company. Public Relations employees include those media spokespersons who are responsible for conducting interviews with the members of the media or prepare the executives of the company who gets interviewed by the media. Finally the creative services team consists of the graphic and the web designers who helps in portraying the company image and brand in front of public eye. This team may help the manager in creating any layout and design to portray the image of the company that the Vice President and Manager has decided for their business. (Aaker,2001) The organization structure and hierarchy varies and with it the involvement of marketing techniques also differs but the level of marketing remains higher in almost every organization of an average size. We can now discuss about the marketing strategies implemented by the fast moving consumer goods sector by giving a good example of MARICO Industries and its growth in the FMCG sector. The Indian FMCG sector is characterized by an established distribution network, which poses a stiff competition between the organized and unorganized sector. The main segments can be classified into personal care, household care and packaged foods and beverages. There can be several product lines for a particular organization hence the structure depends from companies to companies where separate managers are appointed for different product lines. The entry of the giant corporate retail in Indias food market will have direct impact on Indias 650 million farmers and 40 million people employed in tiny retail. More than 6600 mega stores are planned with Rs40,000 crore by 2011. Our case is intended to cover two primary objectives which are: First, when experts and giants like future group WalMart and Reliance they are ready to start operations in retail what kind of strategies and structure they would be having to get the competitive edge over each other and established small and unorganized retailers. Second, what kind of impact has been on other retailers including unorganized ones with the opening of Reliance Fresh stores. In the following case findings about Reliance Fresh were quite awakening and exemplary. Even after recent shutdown of Reliance fresh stores from UP and unwelcoming vibes from states like Kerala, West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand for its retail format (which was allegedly capturing the unorganized sector and leaving thousands of self employed people jobless) Reliance was not in any mood to hamper its 25000 crore plan. Reliance responded with superb strategy in which it shifted its focus from retailer to being a supplier i.e. targeting hawkers, vendors, Push cart wheelers instead of customers. Big retailers like Reliance have huge resources and network which directly impacted many of the retailers some of whom are planning to quit. In our sample size of 75 retailers more than 30 agreed to have lost as much as 50% of their sales. This case also discusses pros and cons of contract farming which on one part assures farmers of price for their crop and knowledge about fertilizers and seed b ut on other side has some obvious drawbacks like monopoly of big retailers. As a big market in which organized sector is poised to grow with 25% 30% annually our government must come with appropriate regulations to save small retailers and our agricultural sector. BACKGROUND OF RETAIL India is a land of retail democracy- hundreds of thousands of weekly haats and bazaars are located across the length and breadth of our country by peoples own self-organizational capacities. Our streets are bazaars lively, vibrant, safe and the source of livelihood for millions. India has the highest shop density in the world, with 11 outlets per 1000 people. This does not include the village haats. Our retail democracy is characterized by: 1. High levels of livelihoods in retail with nearly 40 million employed which accounts for 8% of the employment and 4% of the entire population. 2. High levels of self organization. 3. Low capital input 4. High levels of decentralization Retail in India has started with the concept of weekly markets, where all the traders gather at one big place to sell their products every week. The people come to these weekly markets to buy the household items for the next one week. Village fairs and melas were also common as it had more of an entertainment value. Once the people started getting busy with their lives and when they turned entrepreneurial, there emerged the mom and pop shops and the kiranas in the neighbourhood. After independence, came into existence the system of Public distribution of foods through the ration shops, where food grains, sugar and oil for the daily consumption were distributed at subsidized rates through the government ration shops. The modern corporate retail formats are of the exclusive brand outlets, hypermarkets and supermarkets, departmental stores and shopping malls. But still the Indian consumer depends on the self-organized retail shops for their daily needs. This is largely due to the excell ent food retailing system that was established by the kiranas (mom and-pop) stores that continue meet with all the requirements of retail requirements albeit without the convenience of the shopping as provided by the retail chains. The Hawkers/lari galla vendors and the local kiranas are the two main forms of unorganized retail in the country, which almost account for 97% of the total retail trade. Giant corporations like Wal-Mart and Reliance have started to try and take over the Indian retail sector. Currently the value of the retail market is estimated at around $ 270 billion with a growth rate of 5.7 per cent per annum according to the Indian retail report. The size of small retail is big, the size of big retail is small, a mere Rs. 250 billion in 2004 or 3% and Rs. 485 billion or 4.7% per cent of the retail market in 2006. However, the large scale corporate retail is projected to grow at the rate of 28% to 30% per annum, reaching Rs. 1000 billion or $ 70 billion by 2010 from th e current size of US $ 8.7 billion. The tenfold increase in corporate retail will be at the cost of small scale retail, which employs nearly 10% of Indias population. The strategy here is to define the small scale self-organized retail as unorganized and the large scale corporate retail as organized. The real difference is however not unorganized vs organized. But it is self-organized vs. corporate Reliance Fresh is the convenience store format which forms part of the retail business of Reliance Industries of India which is headed by Mukesh Ambani. Reliance plans to invest in excess of Rs 25000 crores in the next 4 years in their retail division. The company already has in excess of 560 reliance fresh outlets across the country. These stores sell fresh fruits and vegetables, staples, groceries, fresh juice bars and dairy products. A typical Reliance Fresh store is approximately 3000-4000 square. feet and caters to a catchment area of 2-3 km. History Post launch, in a dramatic shift in its positioning and mainly due to the circumstances prevaling in UP, West Bengal and Orissa, it was mentioned recently in news dailies that, Reliance Retail is moving out of stocking fruits and vegetables. Reliance Retail has decided to minimise its exposure in the fruit and vegetable business and position Reliance Fresh as a pure play super market focusing on categories like food, FMCG, home, consumer durables, IT and wellness , with food accounting for the bulk of the business. The company may not stock fruit and vegetables in some states. Though Reliance Fresh is not exiting the fruit and vegetable business altogether, it has decided not to compete with local vendors partly due to political reasons, and partly due to its inability to create a robust supply chain. This is quite different from what the firm had originally planned. When the first Reliance Fresh store opened in Hyderabad last October, not only did the company said the stores main focus would be fresh produce like fruits and vegetables at a much lower price, but also spoke at length about its farm-to-fork theory. The idea the company spoke about was to source from farmers and sell directly to the consumer removing middlemen out of the way. Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart, Reliance Digital, Reliance Trendz, Reliance Footprint, Reliance Wellness, Reliance Jewels, Reliance Timeout and Reliance Super are various formats that Reliance has rolled out. In addition, Reliance Retail has entered into an alliance with Apple for setting up a chain of Apple Specialty Stores branded as iStore, starting with Bangalore. CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Today when most of the companies are busy in making profits by any means, there are few Ones who are focused to return this society, a part of what they have earned through this society. Reliance retail is one of them. Following efforts of reliance retail are aimed at benefiting the society making reliance socially responsible: 1) Reliance Retail aims at recruiting people from the underprivileged community in society. Hence, we are planning to train students from corporation schools and schools run by NGOs. And, we consider this as a part of our corporate social responsibility, he said. Asked whether the company will take students on an employment basis and pay them a stipend during the course period, he said that actually, it is planning to charge a small fee from those who want to join the course as we want to bring in some discipline and regularity among the students, and will reimburse that once they are inducted into service. 2) Farming in India is highly fragmented and subject to harsh climatic conditions: once harvested, it is very difficult to keep fruits and vegetables fresh. To secure high quality, Reliance Retail is directly sourcing fresh agricultural produce from thousands of farmers from villages through Collection Centers. With this concept, Reliance has built a business model generating shared value that links the company supply chain more closely to poor farmers in Indian villages. Reliance is providing a guaranteed market for the farmers produce, reducing transaction costs and training the farmers in better and sustainable farming practices. This initiative results in higher income and upgrading of skills for the farmers, and reduced spoilage of produce (up to 35 percent) and better quality products for Reliance retail stores. 3) Reliance retail has adopted farm to fork theory which means it is procuring Directly from the farmers thus offering them quite reasonable prices for their produce as now no intermediaries are involved. In return Reliance is giving farmers information about how can farmers improve their productivity. Annotation: In this article, Hawkins exposes three major reasons why implementing differentiated instruction (DI) if a difficult task for most teachers. Hawkins states that districts advocate for professional development of DI as a reactive response to current data trends in education. The goal of this article is to provide classroom teachers with the necessary skills to be able to implement DI into their curriculum. The researcher found that a lack of teacher confidence, lack of teacher efficacy, and a lack of perseverance are three factors in which teachers most often struggle with when trying to differentiate lessons. The researcher goes on to explain that the reason DI is so important is that students vary in so many ways, and our student populations are becoming more and more academically diverse. The goal of my project is to design a workshop to inform educators about differentiated instruction; what it is, why we need it, what effective DI practices look like, what the keys aspects of DI are, how to overcome the barriers of DI, and what the current research of DI is. This article does a good job of reviewing these topics. Wormeli, R. (2007). Differentiation: From planning to practice grades 6-12. Portland, ME: Stenhouse. Annotation: In this book, Wormeli provides a practical way for teachers to create a differentiated lesson from start to finish. He walks educators through the lesson, giving details on what steps to take before, during, and after to make deep connections for students. He gives effective strategies and advice on how to reach â€Å"all† learners within one classroom. Wormeli presents models of effective differentiated instruction, so that teachers can extend what they learn to any subject and any classroom. Support for Project: When creating a workshop for educators on differentiation, it is important to include models of instruction for teachers to reflect upon and use as examples for the future. That is just what this book does. Wormeli gives annotated models of effective differentiated instruction, such as tiering, flexible grouping, how to make adjustments based on formative assessments, and interdisciplinary examples for teachers to learn how to do. Once educators feel comfortable using these strategies, they can extend these procedures throughout their careers.

Yet Charlemagne wasnt a figment of our imagination. He is one of the worlds finest leaders. Charlemagne established the traditions of European royalty and nobility. His prominence in medieval Europe was a big force of bringing together the people of Europe. His many contributions help shape European civilization. For his valiant conquests the French, Germans, and Italians not so much thought of themselves as French, German, or Italian but rather as Europeans. They shared a common culture, common religious liturgy, and a common language of Latin. The name Charlemagne was not use till after his death. His tombstone reads, Here lies Charles the Great, no historians would contradict this claim of greatness (Harold Lamb page 152). Historians use Charlemagne cautiously due to the fact, that it might imply the legendary figure rather than the historical one. Other names that he is known form is Charles the Great, the king of the Franks, and the founder of the Holy Roman Empire. The family line of royalty could have end before the reign of Charlemagne. After the death of Pepin II the line would have faded into history. If it wasnt for his bastard son Charles Martel. Charles Martel was the first to bear the name Charles was Charlemagnes grandfather. Though he never hold the title of king he controlled all three Frankish realms-Neustria, Austrasia, and Burgundy. An Encounter is about a boy who decides to skip school with his friends one day. The boys friends played Cowboys and Indians often and this caused a hunger for adventure in the boys mind. The boy became convinced that exciting things only happen to those who go exploring about so he decided to ditch school one day and go into town. There the boy meets an old man and he is embarrassed of his friend and doesnt want to seem foolish. He appears well educated and like a sharp boy to the reader. The reader almost experiences an epiphany along with the boy because up until now the reader wasnt fully aware of the boys intelligence. The boy realized he didnt even like Mahoney, the friend he was running off with. The Juvenile spirit of him actually annoyed the boy. He didnt need to act cool or play hooky or read comics. He enjoyed earning, acting mature, and being a respectable boy and it took talking to this old man for him to realize that. Beeline relates the story of a woman who is planning to run off with her fiance ©. The story reads as if she has a tough home life especially since her mother died. For the first part of the story she ponders her decision wondering if she is making the right choice. She constantly is putting the promise she made to her mother in consideration. Her mother is her only reason of thinking of staying. She knows that staying involves a lot more work less respect a lot of duty ND taking care of her abusive father. The two people she cared about most in her family are already gone. In a weird sense having her mother gone is what is holding her back. She told her mom that she would make sure her father is being taken care of. She also has a bit of nostalgia for this kind of living. She admired her mother and thinks that if it was good enough for her mother than she should live the same way. Overall she decides the life is too tough and that she should elope with her lover. The reader is lead to believe she has every intention of doing so. She gets on the docks dead to run away but at the very last minute she refuses to go in a sudden realization. This comes to as a shock to the reader and it can only be assumed that she realized she had to fulfill her promise. The epiphany in Beeline was a different because she was stuck on a decision and couldnt make up her mind. So she was searching for this realization whereas the boy in An Encounter wasnt expecting to discover that he wasnt who he was pretending to be. Although she was hoping for the decision to be made the reader can note that it probably wasnt what she was expecting and it didnt come when she expected it to. In After the Race the main character Jimmy is trying to fit in with the elite and rich crowd. He does this by spending money as if he has more than he actually does, gambling, and attending the race. Jimmy goes to a hotel with his friends and then proceeds to go to a yacht. The story frequently refers to Jimmys father and how he worked so hard to get Jimmy and himself to fit into this crowd. Jimmy plays cards on the yacht and falls deep into EOT out doesnt stop. A muleteer AT alcohol Ana Ignorance over rule Nils reasoning. He is aware that he cant afford to be partying like he is but decides that he will worry bout that problem tomorrow. At the end of the story it is announced that its daybreak. Joyce constructed the end of the story in such a way that the reader experiences the epiphany with Jimmy. One might experience frustration as Jimmy gambles away money he doesnt have, but might understand the fools yearn to have fun and put off his worries until tomorrow. At the end of the story when tonights fun has made an abrupt and quick transition into the next mornings troubles Jimmy and the reader realize the drunken mistake. Jimmy is in a very similar situation that the boy in An Encounter was in. The boy wanted to be a troublemaker and have no regard for learning. They both experience a societal calling. Its not socially acceptable interested in ones education or to stay at home with a book rather than drinking and gambling. Both of these characters try to reach this social status until at the end come upon a sudden realization that renders that achievement either impossible or undesirable. Beeline and Jimmy are in almost entirely opposite situations. Beeline is attempting to do what is best for herself. She plans to elope with her loving fiance © leaving behind a troubled home life. At the end of the story, however, she is unable to go through with it making the decision that would least benefit herself. In After the Race Jimmy makes poor decision throughout the story but the reader is led to believe that his epiphany will lead him to lead a more reasonable life in the future. All three characters realize something about themselves. This is a little ironic because one would assume that when an epiphany is realized it might be of some great truth to life. It seems odd yet a little more realistic that these particular Edibleness have reached a point of true self-discovery in these epiphanies.

Kennedy and the Soviet Premier Nikita Krushchev were practically eyeball to eyeball, each with a finger on the trigger. One wrong move and this would have escalated to a nuclear confrontation, and ccompletely changed the course of history. For the Americans, the countdown began on Monday, October 15, 1962, when a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft revealed several Soviet nuclear missile installations in Cuba. They promptly swung into action and the subsequent 13 days has been recorded for posterity and popular consumption in a typical American good-guys-verses-the-bad-guys movie "Thirteen Days," where the good guys were, of course, the Americans. Who knows when it began for the Russians Perhaps the insecurity of being on the defensive started after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where the use of nuclear weapons is seen by some historians as a warning to the Soviet Union. According to Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev's memoirs, he conceived the idea of placing intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Cuba to counter an emerging lead of the United States in developing and deploying strategic missiles. At this point of time, MAD, or "mutually assured destruction" was a prominent feature of the nuclear arms race, supported in particular by the deployment of nuclear Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). The idea was that the two super-powers would not attack each other because both sides had nuclear weapons to decimate each other, and worse, to make the entire planet uninhabitable. So, since launching an attack would be suicidal for either party, neither would attempt it. (Wikipedia) For the Soviet Union, what brought things to a head was the presence of U.S. missile sites in Turkey, which directly threatened cities in the western sections of the Soviet Union, tilting the balance of terror in favour of the U.S. As for the Cubans, ever since the Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961, when the United States armed and funded Cuban exiles to overthrow Fidel Castro's government, the Cubans lived under the shadow of fear of more reprisals from the United States. It was to protect themselves from another such United States-sponsored invasion, that Fidel Castro gave the Soviet Union approval to build missile installations in Cuba. The differences in their view-points are reflected in how they subsequently remember the incident. The Cubans know it as the October Crisis, just one of the many run-ins with the Americans. The Soviets refer to it as the Carribean Missile Crisis, where the Cubans are merely instrumental in yet another confrontation with the Americans in the Cold War, while the Americans call it the Cuban Missile Crisis.
